WE WILL BE SWITCHING UMBRELLA ORGANIZATIONS FOR NGOBE SAFE WATER AND THE RELIEF EFFORTS. PLEASE CHECK BACK SOON ABOUT DONATING OPPORTUNITIES.
What will be bought with the donated funds?
The immediate relief issues seem to be in the hands of the Panamanian government however local leaders fear what comes after the next 11 days. Whole communities need to be rebuilt, houses re-erected and sanitation re-established.
Those who lost their homes lost everything. The following is a simplified list of supplies that are in need: school supplies, clothing for boys/men, shoes, underclothes for women (they wear a typical dress called a nagua), kitchen supplies, light bedding.
Many of these supplies have been donated by organizations and the government in Panama.
We are thinking that the best way to use the funds now donated is to do more long term community reconstruction: making safe water systems, latrine construction, sheep and chicken community farming and seed projects.
Please let us know if there are any ideas that you have (at the Forum page)
People that may be purchasing items in the city to take to Soloy and surrounding communities are: Carli Halpenny (PhD student from McGill), Fr. Joe Fitzgerald.
